Emanuel Celebrates Pulaski Day
Issues Congressional Record Statement Honoring Casimir Pulaski Day
Washington, DC – U.S Representatives Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) released the following record statement commemorating Casimir Pulaski Day in honor of General Casimir Pulaski. Since taking office in 2003, Emanuel has been a champion for the over one-hundred thousand Polish Americans in the Fifth Congressional District. The city of Chicago has more people of Polish descent than any other city outside of Poland. Emanuel has been a constant advocate for Poland’s inclusion in the State Department and Department of Homeland Security’s Visa Waiver Program. “Madam Speaker, I rise today to commemorate Casimir Pulaski Day in honor of General Casimir Pulaski, a hero of the American Revolution and time-honored ‘Father of the American Calvary.’ Over 200 years have past since the end of the Revolutionary War, but we have not forgotten his service and sacrifice for America in the early days of our country. “General Pulaski, a native of Poland, fought valiantly in the Battle of Brandywine and the Siege of Charleston, among other battles. In 1779, Pulaski created an independent corps of cavalry and light infantry, known as the Pulaski Legion. Though General Pulaski was not American, he proudly declared, “I came here, where freedom is being defended, to serve it, and to live or die for it.” General Pulaski fought valiantly for American Independence until he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Savannah. His premature death prevented Pulaski from being honored with honorary American citizenship, which is why Senator Durbin and I are working to honor him with posthumous citizenship through H.J.Res.39 and S.J.Res.5. “General Pulaski’s contribution and sacrifice is a testament to the heroism of the men and women who fought for our independence from Britain, as well as a symbol of our country’s long friendship with the people of Poland. “Poland is a first class friend of America, and we need to treat them as such. That is why I have long pushed for Poland’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program, and I will continue to work to that end. “Madam Speaker, on behalf of the more than 110,000 residents of the Fifth Congressional District of Illinois, I am honored to commemorate Pulaski Day and hope that all of my colleagues will join me in remembering this great friend of America.”
### Obchody Dnia Kazimierza Pulaskiego Oswiadczenie Kongresmana Ramha Emanuela, 3 marzec 2008 Pani Marszalek Izby Reprezentantow, zabieram dzisiaj glos by uczcic Dzien Kazimierza Pulaskiego ustanowiony ku pamieci generala Kazmierza Pulaskiego, bohatera walki o niepodleglosc Stanow Zjednoczonych, honorowego„Ojca Amerykanskiej Kawalerii”. Dlatego wraz z Senatorem Durbinem zabiegamy o przyznanie Pulaskiemu posmiertnego honorowego obywatelstwa (projekt rezolucji H.J. Res.39 w Izbie Reprezentantow, oraz S.J. Res.5 w Senacie.)
